(A programme for selected Counties Manukau Schools)

What?

Here at CMDHB we have been working on a new and improved Maaori and Pacific Year 12 and 13 schools programme for 2010 called Health Could B 4 U and we would like to invite your school to be involved!

When?

The programme will be run through out the course of the school year over terms one, two, three and four in 2010. There will also be half-day components during each school holidays. There will be four two hour in-class sessions (eight hours total) for the entire year.

Why?

The programme aims to bridge the gap for Maaori and Pacific students between health related tertiary study and health professions. Students from your school will be better informed about the range of health careers available and the different tertiary courses they can study to get into their desired health profession.

How?

Health Could B 4 U will consist of four in class panel discussion sessions and three off site health campus tours. Health professionals will be invited into the schools to form an interactive and fun panel discussion with the students. Students will have the opportunity to ask questions and form mentoring relationships with a variety of health professionals. Students will then be given the opportunity to visit various health campuses around Auckland to see where and understand what they will need to study to work in the various health professions.

Who?

Health Could B 4 U will be organised by the Maaori Workforce Development Co-ordinator and the Schools Programme C-oordinator. Students who are selected onto the programme must be either Maaori or Pacific, and taking year 12 or 13 science, or interested in pursuing a health career. Keeping in line with our targeted strategy we will only be offering this programme to a select group of schools in the South Auckland region, please refer to the list attached.

We look forward to meeting with you shortly to discuss our new programme!
